BUFFALO, N.Y. (March 18, 2016) — The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has recalled defenseman Chad Ruhwedel and goaltender Nathan Lieuwen from the Rochester Americans (AHL).
Ruhwedel (5’11”, 200 lbs., 5/7/1990) has totaled 22 points in 46 AHL games this season, leading all Amerks defensemen with eight goals, and has 12 points (5+7) in his last 12 games. The San Diego native has appeared in 32 career games with the Sabres since making his NHL debut in the 2012-13 season and will join the team on his first recall of the season.
Lieuwen (6’4”, 200 lbs., 8/8/1991) joins the Sabres on his second recall of the season after serving as the team’s backup in for five games in October. In 26 AHL games this season, he has compiled a 14-10-1 record with a .911 save percentage and a 2.86 goals-against average.
A native of Abbotsford, British Columbia and the Sabres’ sixth-round pick (167th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft, Lieuwen played seven games for the Sabres during the 2013-14 season, posting a 1-4-0 record with a .906 save percentage and a 2.98 goals-against average.

Six players have been loaned to the Rochester Americans (AHL): Forwards William Carrier, Evan Rodrigues, and Tim Schaller; defensemen Jerome Leduc (pending waivers) and Chad Ruhwedel (pending waivers); goaltender Nathan Lieuwen.
Two players have been released from their tryouts and will report to Rochester for training camp: Forwards Matt Ellis and Patrick Kaleta.
The Sabres now have 30 players (16 forwards, 11 defensemen and three goaltenders) on their training camp roster.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (April 10, 2015) — The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has recalled defenseman Chad Ruhwedel from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Ruhwedel (5’11”, 181 lbs., 5/7/90) joins the Sabres for his second recall of the season. In two NHL games during his first recall in March, he recorded one assist and a plus-2 rating. Ruhwedel has recorded 34 points (10+24) through 69 AHL games in 2014-15, ranking him fourth among Amerks skaters and tying for 14th among all AHL defensemen.
Now in his third season with the Sabres organization, the San Diego, Calif. native has played in 30 NHL games and signed a two-year contract extension with the club in July 2014.
