Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller:
On playing the whole game:
“It felt good to be in the mix and the battle of a 2-2 game. It’s the stuff you want to get into right away. We reacted pretty well there as a group, we got off to a slow start we weren’t connecting right like the second or third period. I thought we did a great job.”
On Carolina’s shot total:
“They had good puck control and they were hard on the puck but we made some nice adjustments and that’s what the preseason is for.”
On having so many lengthy defensemen in front of him:
“Yeah good skaters, I thought they did a nice job. It’s going to be scary when all the reads come with a little more experience. They already looked pretty good.”
Buffalo defenseman Brayden McNabb:
On how rewarding it is to get on the score sheet and contribute to the win:
“It’s huge; we work hard all summer and I get rewarded like that. It’s one game, but you have to keep an even keel, try to get better each day.”
On bouncing back after a slow start:
“Yeah, they came out really hard. I thought we had a really good second period. We want to establish ourselves as a three-period team.”
On the benefits of playing with teammates from Rochester:
“Yeah, playing with Mark, I’ve played with him a lot. He’s a great player, he keeps things simple. It’s fun playing with him and all the guys from Rochester.”
Buffalo defenseman Nikita Zadorov:
On how helpful development camp and training camp have been:
“I think that’s helped me a lot because I had a pretty good summer working out. Thanks for the training staff, they support me all the time.”
Carolina forward Nathan Gerbe:
On going into the game against Ryan Miller:
“We had a lot of chances, but we need to bear down. You know you can get a lot of chances and not score but at the end of the game you need to get goals.”
On Staal talking about lack of consistency among the team:
“We need to learn what we did wrong, look at it and go from there, I think, and then it’s just about going out there and getting things done.”
On emotions of his time in Buffalo and the transition of playing in a different city:
“It feels weird, but I’m already over that part (not playing in Buffalo) so I think it really wasn’t too bad.
I had a great time here, met a lot of great people in the community and enjoyed doing as much as I can to help others around the area. Overall, I hope they’re appreciative of what I did.”
